Carers of people living with dementia often do not see themselves as a carer and feel guilty about admitting they need a break.
If you are a carer, just sit back and think about everything you do during a 24 Hour period to support someone living with dementia and you may start to view this differently.
The Emotional, Physical, Financial and Social impact this diagnosis can have on you as a carer can show very quickly and start to affect your day to day life. Learning new coping strategies, new ways of managing difficult and changing behaviour and feeling confident in ‘what you are doing is right’ can dramatically change how you feel about the diagnosis.
Unfortunately the person with dementia cannot change or stop what is happening to them so providing detailed and structured support for a carer can help them to feel supported and know that they are providing the best care they can.
