There are currently 944,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is set to rise to 1 million people in the next 10 years.

It is very often thought that dementia only effects the elderly population but there are 40,000 younger people living with dementia in the UK.

Two thirds of people who have a diagnosis of dementia live in the community and a large percentage of these people live alone as they may not have family and friends that can offer support.

It is important to try to include the person with dementia in decision making, conversations and the type of care they may need.
